The plan for doing school year round fell apart this month. Yeah, we haven’t finished the math books, but the change of pace has been kind of nice.
Since we’re away from home for the month, Nick is working looong hours, and we can’t be at the Skiles’ house all the time, I decided that to do drawing lessons! I chose this book because it seemed sort of serious, it was only $12, and I didn’t want to think about it any more. (How about that for someone who overthinks every decision in life? Progress, eh?)
But really, the lessons have been a highlight of our days here, and the kids are already more confident about drawing.
But I have realized one odd thing about homeschooled kids. They don’t know how to finish a project in a set amount of time. I guess they’ve never had to live by the bell, and they keep going and going and going…
This book recommends doing a “simple warmup” before each lesson. But when the warmup takes the kids an hour to complete, you just never get to the lesson.
I love the kids’ finished projects. They’re learning to use the whole page and it makes for an attractive finished picture.
Plus, we have something to show for ourselves when Nick comes home from his long hours at work.
