Making Superman

Today was the day I decided to dive in to my first attempt at costume making from scratch. With no pattern. All made up in my head. The best part of the afternoon was spent working on this perfect logo for Wilson’s Superman costume. But all the while, something just did not seem right.

Something is not right...

Never mind that feeling. I had been too busy finding a logo to base the design on…

Then I had to fiddle with the image to make a template that was just the right size…

Find some gold fabric and make the logo background…

Then fuse the very red felt to the interfacing, trace the logo from my template, and carefully cut it out without fuzzing up all the edges. There are some very tight corners, and I was too intent on the task to pay any attention to the feeling that something was not quite right…

Trim around the edges again and attach it to the background. Voila! Uh, something is definitely not right. I may have the excuse that I’ve never made a full-blown costume before, but I’m pretty sure that I learned my ABCs once upon a time.

Something is not right...

Ah well, it went faster the second time around.
